DJ Afrique

Alex Lewis, DJ Afrique, grew up in New York and New Jersey area. At the early age of 12, his interest in music was so strong, he stayed up late on weekends listening to the master mixes of Shep Pettibone and Tony Humphrey on New York's WBLS and KISS FM. At the age of 13, he purchased his first two turn tables and a mixer and started playing Afro-beat and Disco at his mother's house parties. At 16, a local club owner noticed him at one of these parties and with his mother's permission, Alex started spinning at Club Deconte in New York. He spent two years as the resident DJ.

AN EXTENSIVE CAREER
The exposure at Club Deconte led Alex to become a resident DJ at Club Paradisio. With the help of promoter, Al Murphy, Alex started warming up for Larry Paterson and many celebrity DJs at the infamous Club Zanzibar. Alex was 19 years old.

Alex was the resident DJ at the Manhattan Rest and Recreation Club. Alex says, "Friends like DJ Stanley Williams and the late DJ David Camacho helped open many doors for me in the music industry."

In the Bay Area, Alex has worked with Bill Graham Presents, Bay Area Productions, Errol Jackson Company and in several clubs including 1015 Folsom in San Francisco, and the Bench and Bar, Club Vibe, Bellanopolis and the White Horse in the East Bay.
